HP DESKJET 2630
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Recently bought an HP DESKJET 2630 Printer and set it up as instructed. I started using the copy function and everything works fine but it won’t print. When I connect it with a 3m USB cable to my MacBook Pro nothing prints. I’ve added the printer to the MacBook and it shows up as a green dot but idle in the Printers & Scanners section. When I send a document to print nothing happens the printer’s power button just blinks as if it’s about to start but then nothing.  No Error codes no nothing, just blinking and idle green in settings. I’ve tried using a different USB port, tried unplugging, restarting both computer and printer and even reset printer settings as a last resort. Paper is full, ink is new. Still says idle. I’m at a complete loss here. 

 

I can’t currently connect it to a WiFi network for air printing because I am waiting on a new ISP. Please help I need this taken care of ASAP.

If you are using a USB cable, make sure the cable is directly connected between the MAC and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your MAC.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the MAC?

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your MAC:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.

 

Install the printer using AirPrint

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

6.) Try to print.
