Hi @vividimage,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It is unusual for the scanner light to strobe on and off consistently when you open the scanner bed on your HP Deskjet 4255e printer. This is not considered normal behavior for the scanner.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about a minute.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Check Scanner Bed:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or dirt on the scanner bed which might be interfering with the scanner light.

Firmware Update:

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply I have done everything you said but the issue is there still.

I do notice if I go to https://support.hp.com/ca-en/drivers/hp-deskjet-4200e-all-in-one-printer-series/model/2101374541?sku...

There is a newer firmware available then the one that HP Smart App Found should I install this firmware from the link

HP Recommended

@Kuroi_Kenshi Not sure how I would manually install the new firmware as the printer doesn't have a port to plug a USB stick in and logging in to web browser there is only a auto update option..
