HP DeskJet 2131
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have just set up the DeskJet 2131 on my mac OS X 10.11 but it will not print.

I have gong through previous support pages to try and trouble shoot but it is still not working. I can print from scanning but any job I try to print from my mac will not register. It isn't even showing up in a print que.

I have troubleshooted from this page

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-DeskJet-2130-All-in-One-Printer-series/7174550/model/7521801...

and this one

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-DeskJet-2130-All-in-One-Printer-series/7174550/model/7521801...

but nothing has worked.  I have reinstalled, reset, turned both the printer and computer on and off, checked the cables, but it is still not working.

Try to make a standalone copy to check the hardware functionality of the printer. If succeeded, Removing the existing printer driver and setting up the printer with Apple AirPrint may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

 1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4. Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5. Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6. Try to print.

Let me know how this goes.

Thank you so much. Updating the printer firmware corrected it! In my two hours of searching for an answer of how to fix this, I can't believe I couldn't find this as an answer.
