HP DeskJet 2652
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a used HP DeskJet 2652 printer.  I would like to reset the printer to factory defaults and disable/reenable Web Services in order to use HP Instant Ink.  I am able to access the Advanced Options, however most of the options are "locked" and require a username/password which I do not have.  The previous owner does not recall this information.    I cannot get a claim code and I get an error upon trying to enter the existing "@hpeprint.com" information as a substitute claim code.  Is there a way to reset the username/password without access to the current setting?

Thanks!

@BlessedGirl1971 You could check with the last user and try this: click here

If that's not an option, you will need to create a new account and register yourself as the new user/owner of the printer, basically start from scratch!

  • Go to HP Instant Ink and click Sign Up Now to be guided through the setup.

For more information and a video, see Enrolling in HP Instant Ink.

If yes, here's what you'll need to ensure, to complete the enrollment, as there are more things to consider other than the compatible printer:

HP Instant Ink enrollment requirements

Read the following requirements to use the HP Instant Ink service.

  • Eligible HP Instant Ink printerGo to HP Instant Ink, and then scroll down to the FAQ section for a list of eligible HP printers.

  • Active Internet connection to the printer: The printer must be set up on a wired or wireless network and its Web Services feature turned on for HP Instant Ink to know when to send you ink. USB cable-connected printers cannot connect to the service.

  • Email address (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, etc.): Required as part of the enrollment. Do not use your printer’s ePrint email address.

  • Valid credit or debit card: A list of accepted credit and debit cards displays during enrollment.

  • Supported countries: Click the flag icon in the top right corner of the HP Instant Ink website see if the service is available in your country.

I appreciate the response.  However,  the previous owner is either unable or unwilling to help due to not having the information necessary to reset the e-mail/password for their HP Instant Ink account which according to them was cancelled months ago.

I have tried signing up for my own HP Instant Ink account but cannot use the first portion of the printer e-mail as describe in other information I have found because it gives an error.  This other information states that if that is not an option,  I need to disable/re-enable Web Services which requires the printers administrator password (which was set by the previous owner and they do not remember it) Most of the setting options are showing as "locked" in the settings within HP Smart and requires immediate login in order to adjust the settings.  The previous owner does not recall the password necessary to do so.

Therefore, as I requested in my previous post, I need to know how to reset the printer to its factory settings without access to the administrator password since I do not have access to this password.

Additional information I discovered in my research pointed me to the support community for a method to do so which can be sent to me in the form of a private message.

@BlessedGirl1971 I suggest you reset to network deafults using the below steps and then, try the same steps again to enroll the printer with a new account, once the old customer cancels the account.

To restore network settings to default settings

Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.

The network will need to be reconfigured afterwards. Then the user name will be admin and the password is left blank.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Resetting the network settings, then connecting the printer by USB gives a different response in HP Smart.  It now states, "A custom password has been set for your printer.  Please enter the password to access the printer web interface," upon attempting to update the network settings.  So, I am still unable to correct the issue I am having.  The password that the previous owner set is STILL blocking access.  I am not able to update the network settings without the password I do not have access to.  Attempting to do so always results in failure, even when attempting a fresh installation of the printer.

UPDATE: I finally managed to get the printer re-connected to my network via WPS but I am still unable to access the advanced settings to disable/re-enable Web Services due to the custom password.  I will never be able to fully use this printer without being able to remove the password that I do not have access to. I have tried everything I have been able to find on resetting the printer to factory defaults, but nothing works to get rid of the password that is blocking me from being able to access the settings necessary to set up HP Instant Ink.

I have spent several days trying to resolve the issue to no avail. Please provide some method of doing a full factory reset, even if that method requires sending me a private message with how to do so as indicated in other posts within this community.

@BlessedGirl1971

As this printer is enrolled in Instant Ink, the factory reset is not advised. Kindly contact the Hp Instant Ink team in your region for assistance.

Keep us posted for any other assistance.
