HP DeskJet 2722
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP DeskJet 2722 connected by wireless to a laptop running Windows 10. It is brand new.

When I installed it yesterday, I was able to print the test page (automatically generated test page) during installation. Since then, every time I try to print the paper stops 2/3 way into the printer and I get a "Paper mismatch" error. I am using A4 paper and have A4 selected in the program I am printing from. The error occurs for all programs - Abode, Word, Notepad - and also when I scan and print a document. I have never been able to print.

The Firmware is the current version TCP1FN2102DR 2012-01-04 (Tools > Printer Updates > Check Now).

I've restarted the printer (unplug, wait, replug) and restarted the Print Spooler service.

I've also tried Diagnose and fix > Start > Test Print but the test page also doesn't print (paper 2/3 through then Paper Mismatch error).

How can this be fixed?

Yay I was able to print a page! Seriously, 4 hours of my life over the past 2 days trying to fix it... 😕

If it's helpful, after this step:

Easy Start...

About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver).

it went back to the start of the Easy Start installation (seemed to go into a loop) - but clearly the software had already installed because after a restart it was working.

Thankyou *immensely* for your help.

HP Recommended

@Goldfisher

You are welcome.

Not sure about the loop bits - this is a newer version of the Easy Start software so maybe it "caught" on something unexpected.

Good that it all works (finally) after a Restart.

Stay Safe!

So the next time I've tried printing, the first page results in the Paper Size Mismatch error (again). I'm really not expecting to have to go through a full reinstall every time I try to print.

HP Recommended

@Goldfisher

True, You should not have to install software each time you print.

The printer is apparently not able to keep track of your settings / shortcuts / job setup.

The printer software is used in conjunction with whatever application you are using.

This is from Category Troubleshooting >

Paper Mismatch error (Windows, Mac)

and, possibly...

If you have not done so,

Try running the Doctor.

If you have already tried the "regular" doctor,

Try this version:

Offline Doctor V5.0.7

  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

  • Download and Save the doctor to your computer
  • Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder in which you saved the file (likely Downloads)
  • Execute the doctor – Answer any prompts /  let the process complete
  • Restart the computer, log in, and wait for the final steps in the Doctor to finish.
  • Check for any difference.

Original Notes – Contributed by ShlomiL

Paraphrased

Connection Issues

  • Print and Scan Doctor Version 5.0.7 creates a secondary queue for printing with TCP/IP port.

After the Offline Doctor completes…

Verify / Adjust the “Default” printing device (Default Printer)

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

OR

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on printer > Set printer as Default

NOTES – Selecting Default Printer

  1. Do not select the printer marked as “Scan Only / DO NOT DELETE”
  2. Do not select the printer marked as “Fax”

Example Default Printer:  Set “Default” Printer = HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3 (Net)

ReferenceHP Printers - Printer is Offline (Windows) > Step 2: Manually set the default printer
