I have a new HP DeskJet 2852e.  I turned the power on and sent a print job to it from my computer.  It won't print.  It has a new ink cartridge.  The icon that looks like a page is not lighting up.

Hi there @Tootspapa, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

Let's work together to get your HP DeskJet 2852e printing properly. Since the printer is new and the print icon (page symbol) isn't lighting up, here are some steps to troubleshoot:

Check Printer Status

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and the Power light is solid (not blinking).
  • If the Print icon light is off, it may indicate the printer is not receiving a print job or is in an error state.

Verify Ink Cartridge Installation

  • Open the ink cartridge access door and ensure both cartridges (black and tri-color) are properly seated.
  • Remove and reinsert them to confirm proper contact.
  • Make sure you're using original HP setup cartridges that came with the printer.

Check Paper Tray

  • Ensure paper is loaded correctly in the input tray.
  • Adjust the paper guides so they touch the edges of the paper without bending it.

Use HP Smart App for Setup and Diagnostics

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from HP Smart
  • Open the app and add your printer.
  • Use the “Diagnose & Fix” tool in the app to automatically detect and resolve common issues.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
