On the test page from the HP Print & Scan Doctor, the top text is not readable, it is so light (in a turquoise ? color). Below the color test band on that same page, at the very edge of line test, the lines are very light (light turquooise?) at the edge of the right and left margin. (I'm not surre is something else is not visible that should be.) For the alignment page print-out, all the lines except two (D series and I series) are not printed so that printed sheet is completely useless to complete answering the question sheet.
I had been using (same model HP Deskjet 1010) until it developed the problem described above. Thinking it was a printer problem, I replaced the existing printer with a brand new HP Deskjet 1010 (same model) I had purchased some time ago as a back-up replacement printer. I discovered even with the new printer, I had the same problem as the previous printer.
(I also have a HP PSC which prints fine with no problem.)

Welcome @casey-CA,
Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that the black isn't printing correctly. Thanks for providing all that detailed information. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Are you using the same cartridges from the other printer?
I would try the steps listed in this document, they should help resolve this issue: Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Deskjet 1010 and Deskjet Ink Advantage 1010 Printer Series.
If you are still having the same issue printing the Print Diagnostics page then it would be a hardware issue and not software related. Let me know the results.
Feel free to click on the "Accept as Solution" button and the "Thumbs Up" for my assistance. Please let me know the results and if there is anything else I can help you with. Thanks!

Thanks for your posting. I had a time finding your reply as I am not that computer literate. Yes, I tried the steps you mentioned so I must have a hardware problem. Can you explain what fixing the hardware problem would entail? In other words, what do I need to do. Can I just get a replacement part and have someone replace the part???

Hi @casey-CA,
If you used the same cartridge in the new printer, it may be the black cartridge. Since the issue is happening with both printers.
If the cartridge is Genuine HP and in warranty, you can call in and inquire about a replacement cartridge. If it is a hardware issue with the printer, the printer can be exchanged or possibly you can trade it in for another model.
You can contact HP Customer Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance.
Thanks!
