HP Deskjet 2540 All in One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been connecting to the HP Deskjet 2540 Wirelessly and Wired, however the printer goes to sleep after 5 mins even though I have Auto-turn off feature turned off for my printer.

Even after sleep, if I try to print a page, it says Printer is offline and wont wake up.

Even after manually waking up the printer, if I try to print, it wont print as it says the printer is offline/cannot connect.

I tried opening the IP Address of the wireless internet connection but it keeps failing.

Can you please help?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  2. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  3. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  4. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  5. Try to print.

Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.

  1. Log into your router's configuration or setup page. ...
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer until it blinks, and then press and hold the WPS button on your router. ...
  3. Press the Wireless Direct button on the printer, and then open the list of available networks.

Setting a Static IP Address

Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:

HP Printer Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wireless.
  5. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  6. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  7. Click Apply.

Thank you for your response. I am still unable to resolve it using Option 1.

For option 2: What does this mean? "Press the Wireless Direct button on the printer, and then open the list of available networks."

Also for Option 3: how do I find the IP address of my printer so I can update it manually in my router?

HP Print and Scan doctor is unable to connect to my wireless printer itself. It can connect to it when I connect with USB.

THanks!

Even after setting a manual IP address, I still am seeing the same issue.

This is the message from the IP address of the printer:

The settings have been saved successfully. However, communication between the browser and the printer has been lost.

To reconnect, make sure:

- The computer and the printer are on the same network.
- The printer's IP address is correct. Open a new browser window, and then enter the printer's IP address.

Tip: To obtain the printer's IP address, print the network configuration page. Also, you might be able to view the IP address from the printer's display. For more information, see the documentation provided with the printer.

This might require remote access to the computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.

Hi Sandy,

Since the warranty on my product is expired it only gives me option to post on community but there is no chat or call option. Is there a direct contact number I can use to call or chat with support?
