HP Deskjet 2540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-one printer.  It is connected to a Windows 10 laptop and was working properly with a genuine HP 301 Tri-colour cartridge and a genuine HP 301XL Black cartridge. After briefly using the printer with a different laptop (Windows 10 Pro), the printer now always gives  an error for the black cartridge "Incompatible Ink Cartridges -- -- Black", "The cartridges listed above are not intended for use in this printer as it is currently configured.".  The problem also occurs with another brand new, genuine, HP XL301 Black cartridge.

This problem seems similar to that posted by Jmeander3 in 2020 at the following link:

Deskjet 2540 reading genuine HP 61XL black cartridge as not ... - HP Support Community - 7458975

Please can anyone suggest a solution?

Hi @Coffeecake,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you moved and the printer is not accepting the new region cartridges.

We need to perform a regional reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instructions to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

To access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
