The latest on this printer is after I hit 'print', the printer que will pop up on the toolbar, then disappear almost immediately without printing.
Prior to this, it would open the print que, would not print with the message "printer not responding". When I open up HP Smart, it shows the printer is connected via a USB cord.
Steps I have already tried:
Wireless connection via mobile hotspot, which the printer would sometimes connect to, sometimes not.
Turned printer off, back on.
Held down the cancel button with the power button.
Unplugged it for more than 60 seconds, plugged it back in.
Connected with a cord (worked great for 2 days, then quit).
Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer numerous times.
I am literally at my wits end. I don't know what to do anymore. I bought this not 3 months ago, albeit a cheap printer, it did do what I needed to do, but I don't know how to fix this, I have literally done everything the internet and HP assistant has said to do. Halp.

@endlessmeg, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Which application are you trying to print from?
Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
Try making a standalone copy and check if that works.
If you are using a USB cable, make sure the cable is directly connected between the MAC and the printer.
Use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your MAC.
- Check if the printer is getting recognized by your MAC:
- From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
- Click System Report.
- Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.
USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Install the printer using AirPrint driver
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print.
Let me know how this goes.
