I have a MacBook Air lap top which only prints in black and white since using a new HP Deskjet 2710e printer. The laptop does not give me an option to print in colour and when I check the settings it states "option to colour" is only shown when the  printer supports colour? This printer prints in colour perfectly from my apple iPad.

Can anybody assist?

Hi @BudKey7,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue is specific to the print settings on your MacBook Air rather than the printer itself, as the printer is capable of printing in color (as confirmed by the successful color prints from your iPad).

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check Printer Settings on MacBook Air

  • Go to System Preferences → Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP Deskjet 2710e printer and click on Options & Supplies.
  • In the Driver tab, ensure that the correct driver for your HP Deskjet 2710e is selected, not a generic one. If it shows a generic driver, try reinstalling the correct driver (instructions below).

2. Reinstall the Printer Driver on Your MacBook Air

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for the latest driver for HP Deskjet 2710e compatible with macOS.
  • Download and install the appropriate driver for your MacBook Air.
  • After installation, go back to Printers & Scanners, remove the printer, and add it again using the new driver.

3. Check Print Dialog Box for Color Settings

  • When printing a document, go to File → Print.
  • In the print dialog box, click on Show Details (if necessary).
  • Under the Color section (or similar), ensure that "Color" is selected instead of "Black & White" or "Grayscale".
  • If the color option is not available, it indicates that the driver may not be recognizing the printer correctly, which is why reinstalling the driver as described above can help.

4. Reset Printing System (Optional)

  • If the issue persists, you can try resetting the printing system.
    • Go to System Preferences → Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers and choose Reset printing system.
    • This will remove all printers and settings, allowing you to re-add the printer from scratch.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
