I bought my original black & white and color cartridge in my printer. The color cartridge is not detected by the printer. The old empty cartridge is detected by the printer.

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with not being able to use the new ink cartridge while the old one is accepted and not the new one. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you clean the ink cartridges and check again?
- Did you make copies directly from the printer?
It looks like a faulty ink cartridge and might need a replacement. For now, try these steps:
Please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: https://hp.care/2wz1TJZ (HP DeskJet 3630, 4720 Printers - Ink Cartridge Errors)
- Step 1: Make sure the ink cartridges are compatible
- Step 2: Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed
- Step 3: Clean the ink cartridge contacts
- Step 4: Remove and then reinsert the ink cartridges again
- Step 5: Clean the ink cartridge contacts again
- Step 6: Restart the printer
- Step 7: Replace the ink cartridge
- Step 8: Align the ink cartridges
If the new color cartridge is not faulty, these steps should correct the issue and you should the problem should get resolved. Otherwise please replace the ink cartridge either from the same store that you purchased it from by returning this faulty one or contact HP phone support to get the color cartridge replaced.
I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
