I bought the printer last year but couldn't connect to my work laptop due to security. Just bought my own laptop, now I can connect but I can't get any print from word - the page just comes through blank. There is ink in each cartridge and it prints the little icons when I press the i button, but no words print.
Help. Please. I'm sure it's me, not the printer.

Hi @marym1o1,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP DeskJet 3720 All-in-One Printer is having trouble printing text from Microsoft Word, even though it prints test pages and symbols correctly. This issue could be related to the printer settings, the document format, or the software.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:
1. Check Printer Settings in Word
- Open your Word document.
- Go to File > Print.
- Ensure your HP DeskJet 3720 is selected as the printer.
- Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
- Make sure the paper size, print quality, and color settings are correct.
- Try printing again.
2. Check the Print Queue
- Type Control Panel in the search bar and open it.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP DeskJet 3720 and select See what's printing.
- Ensure there are no stuck print jobs. If there are, cancel them and try printing again.
3. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your HP DeskJet 3720.
- Uninstall the current printer driver by going to Device Manager > Printers > Right-click on your printer and select Uninstall.
- Restart your computer and reinstall the latest driver.
- Try printing the Word document again.
4. Test with Another Document or Application
- Try printing a different Word document or a document from another application, like Notepad or a PDF reader.
- If those print correctly, the issue might be with the specific Word document or Word settings.
5. Check for Software Updates
- Make sure your Microsoft Word and your operating system are up to date.
- Sometimes, updates can fix compatibility issues.
6. Convert the Document to PDF
- As a workaround, you can convert your Word document to a PDF and then try printing the PDF.
- To do this, go to File > Save As in Word, and choose PDF as the format.
7. Print in Black and White or Grayscale
- Sometimes color printing issues can cause problems. Try printing in black and white or grayscale:
- Go to File > Print > Printer Properties and select Black & White or Grayscale.
- Try printing again.
8. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Some issues can be resolved by updating the printer's firmware. Visit the HP support site and check if there's a firmware update for your printer.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
