HP DeskJet 4122e All-in-One Printer

Over the last couple of months the printer has started to jam everytime I print, sometimes it will print one page and then the 2nd jams or it may decide to jam when printing one page.  I have thoroughly inspected it for rogue small pieces of paper.  Turned off at the mains and unplugged.  It seems to be a printer feed issue and comes up with the E4 error code until I obviously clear the jammed paper and then it clears the code.  Any ideas for fixes welcome please!

Hi @Gindiger,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding paper jam issues on the HP DeskJet 4122e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Clear Jammed Paper

Ensure all areas of the printer are free from paper jams or foreign objects:

  • Input Tray: Remove any paper and gently pull out any jammed paper using both hands to avoid tearing.
  • Output Tray: Check and clear any jams.
  • Ink Cartridge Access Area: Open the ink cartridge access door and remove jammed paper. Use a flashlight to ensure no bits of paper remain.

2. Check for Obstructions

Make sure there are no foreign objects that might block the paper path or carriage:

  • Professional Tip: Use a flashlight to inspect the printer thoroughly.

3. Make sure the Carriage Moves Freely

  • Power Off the printer, disconnect the power cord, then manually check if the carriage can move from side to side without obstruction.

4. Clean the Paper Rollers

Dust and paper fibers can accumulate on the rollers, causing feed issues:

  • Automated Tool: Use the automated tool available in your printer settings to clean the paper feed rollers.
  • Manual Cleaning: Lightly dampen a cotton swab with water, clean the rollers inside the printer, and allow them to dry completely.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Reset Method: With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord for 60 seconds, and then reconnect. This can clear false paper jam errors.

6. Follow Best Practices

Follow these tips to help prevent future paper jams:

Paper Management:

  • Load paper neatly in the tray.
  • Avoid mixing different paper sizes or types.
  • Do not overfill the paper tray.
  • Ensure the paper guides are adjusted correctly.

Environment: Keep the printer in a clean and dust-free environment.

I hope this helps.
