HP DeskJet Plus 4123 All-in-One Printer

I have HP Deskjet 4123, whenever I try and load A4 sheet it keeps recgnising it as 5x7. I have updated firmware, tried different stack size from 1 sheet to 20 sheets. But it keeps doing that. When i give print command via laptop even when paper is selected as A4 in laptop it give E1 error. Via mobile it keeps showing 5x7 paper size and prints in small size.

Hi @samifarooqui,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP Deskjet 4123 printer misidentifying A4 paper as 5x7 can be frustrating. The E1 error typically indicates a mismatch between the paper size loaded in the printer and the paper size selected in the print job. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Check Paper Tray and Guides:

  • Ensure the paper tray is properly adjusted for A4 paper. The paper guides should snugly fit around the stack of A4 paper without bending the edges. Incorrectly adjusted guides can cause the printer to misidentify the size of the paper.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:

  • Dust or paper fiber buildup on the feed rollers can lead to feeding issues, which might cause the printer to misread the paper size. Cleaning the rollers might help. You can typically access the feed rollers by removing the paper tray or opening the back panel. Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean them.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure the printer settings on your computer or mobile device are correctly set to A4. Even though you've mentioned doing this, double-checking can help rule out any oversight.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve communication issues between the printer and your devices. To reset your printer, turn it off, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Printer Preferences and Software:

  • Double-check the printer preferences in your computer's control panel (or system settings if you're using a Mac) and any printer management software provided by HP. Ensure that the default paper size is set to A4.

HP Smart App:

  • If you're printing from a mobile device, ensure you're using the HP Smart app and that the app is updated to the latest version. The HP Smart app should give you the correct paper size options for your print jobs.

Firmware Recheck:

  • Even though you've updated the firmware, it's worth checking HP's official website again to ensure your printer has the latest firmware version. Sometimes, new

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
