Deskjet F2480
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

From the trials and tribulations I went through, I believe my Deskjet F2480 was one of the printers that was affected by a Firmware update (in 2015) that altered the cartridge authentication procedure, which then blocked the use of refilled/compatible/remanufactured cartridges.  After so much wasted time, swapping cartridges, geting replacements from the supplier, and still having no joy, only HP ones would work.  Having now reached the point that I need to replace them, or, very reluctantly, send a serviceable item to landfill, I come back to my printer fussiness.

Unfortunately, the Deskjet F2480 was not listed as one of the affected ones, and was not listed among the ones benefitting from a Firmware update to rectify this.  Is there a way I can get the printer to install earlier firmware, as I doubt there are enough users still soldiering on with F2480 models to warrant the update that I think it deserves.

I'd welcome acnowledgement that my model was affected, and clarification of whether HP can offer a solution, as I rail against shelling out top dollar for "quality ink" when I only need to print documents, etc. , not photo-quality printout.

Might refilling these ones actually work, as the printer doesn't think they are out of ink yet?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @HUD_Engineer

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

I understand your concern. However, HP does not recommend the use of non-HP ink cartridges that may or may not work. Hp does not guarantee the functionality of non-HP ink cartridges.

To check if your printer model was affected, kindly refer to this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
