Ive replace the black ink cartridge with a new cartridge in my printer and I get an error message that says attention black ink. When I open up the printer utility it does not show that the cartridge is in the printer. If I put the old black ink back into the printer, the printer will recognize the ink cartridge. I've shut the printer off and restarted. I've unplugged the printer while its on. I've cleaned the contacts. Any other options out there???

Hello,

You seems to have all steps that should have fixed the issue. Moreover since the old Black cartridge is being detected by the printer we conclude that its the new black cartridge which is faulty.

Kindly check if you got the right Black cartridge and genuine HP cartridge.

Also if you have removed the protective tape that still might be on the contacts.

Click on below URL to access more steps and contact  info about defective cartridge.
