Hi All,
I am now working from home and have brought my work computer with me, but am using my own HP Envy 120 printer. I have been working from home for 6 weeks with no printer issues until yesterday (Wed, 29/4). On Tues, 28/4 I had to replace the black ink cartridge, which I did and there were no issues. It is a HP Genuine cartridge. On Wed, 30/4 after I had been using it for 24 hours and printing fine, the error message came up "HP PROTECTED CARTRIDGE INSTALLED". I have been on the web and the "Disable HP Cartridge Protection" was already clicked as disabled. This is the only printer the brand new genuine HP cartridge has been in, and therefore even if it was protected, it should still work. I am at a loss how to get this new ink cartridge to work and they are not cheap. I do not want to waste money.
Does anyone have any ideas? Please
Thanks in advance.

Hi @Homefree28
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print due to an ink cartridge error. I'd be happy to assist you.
Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Perform step 3 from this document.
If the error persists, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options as the ink cartridge could be defective.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
