I just installed HP ENVY 4501 Print Scan Copy Photo printer to use with my PC & Iphone & I want to know if I should leave the printer on all the time or only when I need to print. I do not do a lot of printing & when I checked online about my question, there were different answers on whether to leave the printer on all the time or to turn it off, depending on how often it was used. Please let me know what is best for this printer so I can hopefully keep it working well as long as possible.
Thanks in advance.

Thats really a personal preference, I have customers that leave them on 24/7 without any issue. What you want to be most concerned with is your ink drying/hardening. When the inkjet printers arent utilized often, the ink inside the cartridge can start to harden and blocks any remaining liquid ink from printing onto your paper. Just make sure your not going long periods of time without printing something.

Hello TNlady,
It is a personal preference. I have always left my printer off all the time and only power up when needed (which is probably every few days). Probably would want to print out a page that uses b&w and color at least once a month (I'm just guessing). The Print Quality Report would do it. On the front display, touch Setup (gear wheel) > Reports > Print Quality Report (your 4501 is probably different than my 5660)/
The drying problem mostly might cause the nozzels on the ink cartridges to dry and become clogged and stop working. You could clean the cartridges if that occurs. Touch Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Cartridges.
This link provided by HP EXPERT MODERATOR Jeet_Singh is of interest. Look at Time Between Print Jobs (it addresses use of ink, not drying).

You probably don't have HP Instant Ink, but it requires the printer and router/modem be on 24/7. Using very little ink, the program is not worth it.
I am not an HP employee.
