HP ENVY 4520
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi. Just bought this AIO and already fed up with it. I have done the Print/Scan doctor, restarted both the printer and PC repeatedly, printed out reports, etc etc etc. I got one print off Admin side of laptop and one print off user side of laptop. When I try to print it appears to be "printing" then at 25% I get ERROR. Do I just return this paperweight or can someone actually figure it out???

Hello @Riverwild

Great stuff! Glad to know that you were able to fix the issue.

You do not need to delete any of the entries. HP ENVY 4520 series (network) is the wireless printer entry. Make sure, this is your default printer. (Right-click and select "set as default printer" if unsure)

HP ENVY 4520 series is the USB printer entry. Most likely this would have been added when you connected your USB cable from the printer to the PC at some point. You can leave it the way it is. It will not create any issues if the network printer entry is working fine.

Hello, @Riverwild – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I understand that you are having issues with the Envy printer. Appreciate your efforts on troubleshooting the issue. I would certainly try my best to help you fix the issue 🙂

Let’s start by performing a clean install that should help you fix this issue. Follow the steps below:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61222/mp-147801-1/EN4520_Basicx64_72.exe to install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

hello DVortex and thanks for assisting me. Before I saw your response I was able to get the printer to work BUT now I have two instances of this printer showing under my "Devices and Printers".
One says HP ENVY 4520 series and one says HP ENVY 4520 series (network)
After a search I find that I may have used Windows to set one up and HP 123 for one while using troubleshooter. To be honest I am not sure since I worked for hours to get it to work and cannot remember all the steps I took to get there. The printer is showing on my network and does work from both admin side and user side of laptop now.
Can I just delete one and if so, which should I delete? I do NOT want to go through the whole setup again if at all possible.
Thanks!
