HP ENVY 5052 All-in-One Printer

My HP 5000 series printer will not print in color from my Macbook Pro (OS Sonoma 14.4.1). It will print from a PC, but not a Mac. I have tried everything I can think of (even made sure the HP Driver was updated), but it still doesn't even give me the option to toggle on/off to print in color or black and white in my settings. I have researched AirPrint, but when I set up the printer, it doesn't give me the option to select AirPrint; only the printer itself through wireless or "Auto Select", etc. This is frustrating. It's a great printer, but I need it to be able to print in color as well. Please help!

Hi @ecook81 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already done a lot of troubleshooting, which is great. Let's see if we can pinpoint the issue and find a solution for you.

Here are some steps you can try:

  • Check Printer Settings on Mac: Make sure that the printer settings on your Mac are configured correctly. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your HP ENVY printer, and ensure that the settings are set to allow color printing.
  • Reset Printing System: Sometimes resetting the printing system on your Mac can resolve issues like this. To do this, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list, and select "Reset printing system." Then, re-add your printer and see if the color printing option appears.
  • Reinstall Printer Driver: Even though you mentioned updating the HP driver, it might be worth trying to reinstall it. Sometimes a fresh installation can resolve compatibility issues. You can download the latest driver from the HP website and follow the installation instructions.  Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 5052 All-in-One Printer
  • Check Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve printing issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check Printer Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Mac and that there are no issues with the connection. Try using a different USB cable or connecting via Wi-Fi if possible.
  • Test with Different Applications: Sometimes printing issues can be specific to certain applications. Try printing from different applications on your Mac to see if the issue persists across all of them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
