I purchased and installed the HP ENVY 6155e last week on April 10, 2025.
During setup I opted in to HP+.
Also, during setup the firmware was updated to 6.22.4.28-202412022202
At first:
- the printer would enter sleep mode after 5 min of inactivity, i.e. display shuts off and power and wi-fi lights dim.
- I could press the power button and the printer shuts down.
After a few days:
- the printer will not enter sleep mode.
- When I press the power button I get the shutting down message but it then restarts and stays on.
- My only option to power off the printer is to unplug it.
I have tried factory and network resets and the sleep and shut down works but then stops working after a few hours.
I found comments online that HP+ disables auto-shutdown since it requires the printer to be connected to the internet.
Does HP+ also disable sleep mode and shutting down using the power button?
Or is there another issue?

Hi @Hawks_Eye,
Thank you for your suggestions.
I Downloaded and Re-installed Firmware 6.22.4.28 ==> This fixed my shutdown issue, i.e. now when I press the power button I get the shutting down message and then the printer turns off.
However, after re-installing firmware, the printer still did not enter sleep mode.
I tried a Factory Reset (again) and as before the printer entered sleep mode but after a few hours the display came on and did not turn off again.

Hi @TLobo25

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP ENVY 6155e printer, especially after opting into HP+ and updating the firmware. Let’s address your concerns step by step:
Does HP+ Disable Auto-Shutdown and Sleep Mode?
- Auto-Shutdown: HP+ does require the printer to maintain a constant internet connection for features like Instant Ink and cloud-based services. This can disable the auto-shutdown feature, as the printer needs to stay online.
- Sleep Mode: HP+ should not disable sleep mode. However, certain firmware updates or settings might interfere with the printer entering sleep mode properly.
Steps to Troubleshoot Sleep Mode and Shutdown Issues
Step 1: Adjust Energy Settings
- Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to find its IP address.
- Enter the IP address into a web browser to access the EWS.
- Navigate to Settings > Energy Settings.
- Ensure that Sleep Mode is enabled and set to a desired time (e.g., 5 minutes).
- Save changes and restart the printer.
Step 2: Check Firmware Settings
- Open the HP Smart App on your computer or mobile device.
- Navigate to Printer Settings and look for any options related to power management or HP+ features.
- If available, disable any settings that might override sleep mode.
Step 3: Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Test if the sleep mode and shutdown functions work as expected.
Step 4: Update or Reinstall Firmware
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
- Download and reinstall the latest firmware update, even if it’s already installed.
- Restart the printer after the update.
I hope these steps help you resolve the issue and get your printer back to functioning as expected. Let me know how it goes or if you need further guidance! 😊

Hi @TLobo25
Thank you for the update—I'm glad to hear that reinstalling the firmware resolved the shutdown issue! As for the printer not consistently entering sleep mode, here are a few additional steps that may help address this problem:
1. Review Sleep Mode Settings in EWS
- Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser.
- Navigate to Settings > Power Management or a similar section.
- Ensure that sleep mode is enabled and the timeout is set to your desired duration (e.g., 5 minutes).
2. Disable Waking Mechanisms
- Check if there are any features enabled that could prevent sleep mode:
- Disable Wake on LAN (if applicable).
- Check if any scheduled maintenance tasks or printer notifications are triggering the display to wake up.
- If connected via USB, ensure there is no background activity from the connected device keeping the printer awake.
3. Network Settings Check
- Sometimes, network activity can keep the printer awake, especially with HP+ services. Disable any unnecessary features such as Network Discovery or similar options that may poll the printer frequently.
4. Recheck Firmware Settings
- After reinstalling the firmware, verify that no settings were reset to default, particularly the energy-saving configurations.
5. Printer Isolation Test
- Disconnect the printer from your network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and all devices for a few hours. See if the printer successfully remains in sleep mode without external interference. This can help narrow down the source of the issue.
Your persistence in troubleshooting is truly commendable!
Keep me posted.
Thanks,

It’s ridiculous that you have to do all this maneuvering for such a simple process that should work without going through this. I hate this printer it’s about two months old. I have the same issue and in fact every time I use it there is some little **bleep** picky thing that on any other printer it wouldn’t be an issue. There are manufacturing defects all over this printer. This is a bare bones printer why??? Fix all these issues with a firm update. I had an envy 110 series and I had it for almost 15 years no issues.

It’s frustrating when a new printer doesn’t function as expected, especially when your previous HP Envy 110 lasted for years without issues.
Power management settings control how your HP Envy 6155e handles sleep mode, shutdowns, and wake-up functions. Adjusting these settings can help resolve issues where the printer fails to wake up or refuses to power down properly.
Here’s how to configure them:
1. Adjust Power Management via HP Smart
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
- Click on your printer and select Advanced Settings.
- Look for Power Management or Energy-saving settings.
- Set Auto-Off Timer to a longer duration or disable it to prevent unwanted shutdowns.
2. Change Sleep Mode Settings via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Find your printer’s IP address:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
- Locate the IP address under Wireless or Network settings.
- Open a browser and enter the IP address in the URL bar.
- Navigate to Settings > Power Management.
- Adjust the Sleep Timer settings to extend wake periods.
3. Adjust Windows Power Management (For USB/Wireless Issues)
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Network Adapters.
- Right-click your printer’s connection method (USB or Wi-Fi) and select Properties.
- Under Power Management, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
- Click Apply and restart your computer.
4. Update Firmware for Power Management Fixes
- Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16 - Check if there’s a firmware update that includes power management fixes.
- Install the update and restart the printer.
Let me know if you need guidance on that!
I understand how frustrating this is, and I hope you find a solution soon. 😊
