My printer first had an e4 paper jam error when I was printing. I checked everything and there was no paper jam. After I resumed printing, the error went into e3. I have had e3 issues in the past, and HP even had to send me a new printer as they could not assess the issue.
The bar is glowing amber with the door light flashing. I went through all the trouble shooting fixes and they did not work.
My ink is from HP as I am part of the instant ink program, and they were working perfectly fine before this issue.

@Winmen, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with these errors, especially when everything seems fine. Let's try a few more steps to resolve the E3 error and the amber light issue:
Reset the printer
1. Turn off the printer,
2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet,
3. Wait for about 60 seconds,
4. Then reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and
5. Turn on the printer
Check Carriage Path
- Open the ink access door.
- Manually move the carriage (the part that holds the cartridges) from side to side.
- If it’s stuck or difficult to move, gently wiggle it free.
- Look for:
Small bits of paper or packaging material. - Obstructions near the paper path or print carriage rail.
Remove and Reseat Ink Cartridges
- While the printer is unplugged:
- Remove both black and color cartridges.
- Inspect for ink buildup, debris, or damaged chips.
- Reinsert them firmly until they click.
Check for Dirty Encoder Strip
- Behind the carriage, there's a thin, transparent plastic strip that runs across the printer (called the encoder strip).
- If it’s dirty or smudged, gently wipe it using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Be very gentle—it’s fragile and essential for carriage movement.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
