I recently bought through HP directly ( service tech) an HP ENVY Inspire 7255e printer. Not even 50 pages used yet, but I find it strange that on the LCD display it shows a "question mark"!? WHY would this be showing? Paper tray is full. Still ink in the cartridges and no problems printing both USB and/or network.

Hi @Kitmeister,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "question mark" on the LCD display of your HP ENVY Inspire 7255e printer might indicate that the printer is trying to notify you of something that requires attention, even if the device is still functioning normally for printing. Here are some possible reasons:

  • Network or Cloud Connection Issue: If the printer is set up with a network connection or cloud services (like HP Instant Ink), a question mark might appear if the printer is unable to verify its connection with those services, even if printing locally still works fine.
  • HP Account or Subscription Alert: Sometimes the printer displays a question mark when it needs to sync with your HP account or there is an issue with the Instant Ink service. This could be something like an account verification pending.
  • Firmware Update Needed: The question mark could be prompting you to check for available firmware updates. Even if the printer is functioning, there might be new updates that improve performance or fix minor issues.
  • Pending Notification: There might be a notification you need to acknowledge (such as setting preferences for HP Smart App features, warranty information, or ink level monitoring).

Possible Solutions:

  • Check the Control Panel: On the printer's LCD display, see if there are any additional details about what the question mark represents. Sometimes there’s more info accessible by tapping the question mark icon.
  • Update Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware. You can do this by using the HP Smart App or visiting the HP support site.
  • Check Your HP Account: Log in to your HP account to verify there are no issues with Instant Ink, or any pending notifications regarding your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The printer is 3 months old, bought it through HP directly via the tech support guy I was talking with! It has the latest firmware! NO indications anywhere both on the printer's LCD menu or in the browser link to the printer connected via USB and my network here! It's just aggravating to see a question mark lit up with no clue/idea why it's on in the first place.
