I have only recently tried to print photos on the HP ENVY Photo 7155 printer and the output is always very smudge-y on photo paper. I tried using the back of glossy photo paper and it was still smudge-y. I’m using high quality HP cartridges (64XL).

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi @CER47 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with the smudging issue with your HP ENVY Photo 7155 printer:

Check Paper Type and Settings:

  • Ensure you are using the correct type of photo paper recommended for your printer.
  • Make sure to load the photo paper correctly, typically with the glossy side facing down in the paper tray.
  • Verify that the printer settings match the type of paper you are using. In the print dialog, select the appropriate paper type (e.g., HP Photo Paper) and print quality.

Print Head Alignment and Cleaning:

  • Use the printer’s maintenance tools to align the print heads. Misalignment can cause smudging.
  • Clean the print heads through the printer's maintenance menu. Built-up ink can lead to smudging.

Drying Time:

  • Allow sufficient time for the ink to dry after printing. Glossy photo paper can take longer to dry compared to regular paper.
  • Avoid touching the printed photos immediately after they come out of the printer.

Environment Conditions:

  • Ensure that the printing environment is free from excessive humidity and dust, as these can affect print quality.
  • Store photo paper in a cool, dry place to prevent it from absorbing moisture, which can cause smudging.

Firmware and Software Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can improve print quality.
  • Update the printer driver software on your computer to the latest version from HP’s official website.

Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and that they are not expired or damaged.
  • Perform a cartridge cleaning cycle if the printer has this option to ensure that the nozzles are not clogged.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
