Hi, we had some issues with our internet connection yesterday causing our router to drop its connection a couple of times, possibly due to bad weather. Since then our printer has lost its connection to the wireless network. Now when I try to set up the connection it cannot find our router. It lists several other routers, presumably my neighbours, but not ours. If I type in the name of our router, the printer says it cannot find it. I have tried the print doctor app and also all the troubleshooting steps suggested on the HP website, but nothing has worked. All our other devices (PCs, Xbox, iphones, smart TVs) can connect without issue so it must be something to do with the printer. We have an instant ink subscription so I'm not sure what will happen with that now. I have temporarily connected the printer to our main PC via USB cable to allow some printing but if anyone has any ideas (beyond the trouble shooting already tried) to resolve the wireless network issue it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

James

Hey there! @JNB76, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have issues printing wirelessly from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Are there any wireless interferences between the router and the printer?

Are you able to connect other devices to the same wireless network?

Do you get any errors while printing from your printer?

Please provide the provide the operating system you are running on your PC to assist you better.

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps before reaching out to us.

Try the steps recommended below.

Restart the computer, printer, and router

Restart the computer, printer, and router to resolve any error states present during the printer setup.

   NOTE:

The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections, and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the router.

  2. Turn off the printer.

  3. Close all running programs on your computer, including the HP software installation window, then shut down the computer.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to the router, then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.

  5. Turn on the printer.

  6. Turn on the computer.

  7. Try installing the HP driver and software again.

Temporarily disable firewall software on the computer.

Also, assign a static IP to your printer and check if it helps.

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
- Click 'Apply'.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, try restoring the printer network settings to defaults and connect the printer to the wireless network using wireless setup wizard.

1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status
menu.
2. Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless
Settings menu.
3. Select Restore Defaults.
4. Confirm selection to restore defaults

Hi MrRobot, thank you for your help. After sending my original post I discovered our sky box had exactly the same problem as the printer. Interestingly they are the only 2.4Ghz devices on our wireless network. I got in touch with the ISP and following several resets of the router (a BT home hub 5), printer and sky box, and after 2 or 3 days of failed connections, everything is finally back working this evening. It is a bit flakey with the occasional drop outs but hopefully it will settle down. Thanks again.

@JNB76,

I read your quick response. Thanks for the update and I am glad that the issue is resolved by contacting your ISP. It is great to hear from you again. As @A4Apollo is out for the day, I am replying to you.

Thanks and have a blessed week ahead.
