HP Envy 5010

Hello,

I've recently bought a brand new HP Envy 5010 printer and for some reason it does not like the Setup Cartridges that came with it. No matter how many times I re-install the cartridges it will not accept them.

I've bought some new ink cartridges and tried those, but it won't accept them and just states "Use Setup Cartridges".

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Check and reseat the ink cartridges

When setting up a new printer, you must install the SETUP ink cartridges that came with the printer. If the printer came without SETUP ink cartridges, return it to the retailer.

Reseat the cartridges to fix problems caused by poor electrical contact.

  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.

  2. Open each ink cartridge latch and make sure the cartridge is labeled SETUP.

  3. Lift each cartridge slightly, and then reseat and close the latch.

Reseat the cartridges

Try to print. If the error persists, continue to the next step.

Reset the printer

Resetting the printer can clear the error.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Try to print. If the error persists, continue to the next step.

Print with one ink cartridge installed

If the previous steps did not resolve the issue, the ink cartridge indicated in the error message failed. Your printer can finish initialization in single-cartridge mode. Try installing one cartridge at a time and see if it makes any difference.Remove the faulty ink cartridge, and then acknowledge any message you see about the single-cartridge mode. The printer finishes the initialization. Either return to the retailer or contact HP for a replacement ink cartridge.

Update printer firmware

If your printer firmware is out of date, you may see a ‘Use SETUP Cartridges’ error when you install a regular ink cartridge after printer initialization. To fix this, update the printer firmware. Go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware for more information.

Let me know if this helps

Cheers 🙂

@TEJ1602. Thanks for the response, the single cartridge setup worked and now I have a working printer!

Thankyou.
