HP Envy 5055
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Envy 5055 suddenly stopped printing. I can print test/status pages from printer menu or HP Smart Windows 10 app, but I simply cannot get it to print from Windows. Not a test page from the  Control Panel, not from notepad, not from MS Paint and not from office. No printing from Windows 10  - except for status pages through HP Smart app - is possible!

I browsed the support site, went through the HP Support Virtual Agent and the HP Print and Scan Doctor solution processes. Nothing works. HP Print and Scan Doctor internal test page does NOT print.

I removed all drivers, incl. via print server, and all software several times. I restarted the print spooler service a dozen times. I deleted temp files from the spooler's PRINTERS folder. I've updated Windows 10. I checked for new firmware. I unplugged the printer and rebooted my PC half a dozen times.

NOTHING WORKS

PLEASE HELP

@epony I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.

If the issue persists, please go ahead and install the windows built-in drivers:

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

   NOTE:

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.

Hi,

I followed all the instructions. The printer still doesn't work.

When I try to print - regardless of the driver I use (HP or Windows default - I tried both one after the other, removing at the root level when printing had failed) - I get an error message (just a laconic "error while printing" prompt in the taskbar and an "error - printing" status in the printer queue, no details).

So, I'm back at square one: the printer doesn't work. I'm certain it's a driver issue, because I can print test pages from the printer's built-in menu, but I can't print from Windows 10, regardless of the driver, software package, etc.

Any other ideas?

@epony The only other thing to do, is create a new user account, reinstall the drivers and check if that works: click here for steps on how to create a new account.

Keep me posted.
