Won't print any of my documents. HP sent test print and it printed. When I "print" it says it cannot find a printer. USB connections all checked. Last night it printed fine. No changes or anything reconfigured. Rebooted computer and unplugged printer, restarted and nothing will print..Shows no error message in printer window. Spent 2 hours trying to follow "virtual" assistence and nothing seems to touch my issue. Went to Windows "Control Panel" and it shows my HP Envy 5000 series printer, also HP Smart Printing. If I'm lucky I'll be 84 in August. Right now NOT feeling lucky..

Hi @LongBarbels,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with your printer not printing.
If your HP Envy 5055 printer is not printing and you're encountering a message that says it cannot find the printer despite having checked USB connections, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected between your printer and the computer.
- Try using a different USB cable or a different USB port on your computer to rule out a cable or port issue.
Restart the Printer and Computer:
- Turn off the printer and the computer.
- Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Restart your computer.
Check Printer Status:
- Make sure there are no error messages or warning lights on the printer itself (such as low ink, paper jam, etc.).
Verify Printer is Online:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners).
- Right-click on your HP Envy 5055 printer and ensure that it is set as the default printer and shows as "Ready" or "Online".
Check Print Spooler Service:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down and locate Print Spooler in the list.
- Right-click on Print Spooler and select Restart. This will refresh the print spooler service which manages print jobs.
Update Printer Driver:
- Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing issues. Update the printer driver to the latest version:
- Go to the HP Support website or use the HP Smart app to download and install the latest driver for your HP Envy 5055 printer.
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @LongBarbels,
Please find the next set of steps below.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor which can automatically diagnose and resolve printing problems. Download and run it to check for issues.
Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily:
- Sometimes, security software can block printer communication. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software and try printing again.
Reset Printing System (Windows):
- Press Windows + R, type control panel, and press Enter.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.
- Restart your computer.
- Re-add your printer by clicking Add a printer and following the on-screen instructions.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any available updates. Install them and restart your computer if necessary.
Check Network Settings (if using network connection):
- If your printer is connected over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, ensure that it is connected to the correct network and that your computer is on the same network.
Additional Tips:
- HP Smart App: Consider using the HP Smart app to manage your printer, check ink levels, and troubleshoot issues.
- HP Support: If the issue persists, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you. Uninstalling and adding printer was the solution. I had known that from many years ago and had forgotten. I will keep your emails for future when i am likely to forget again. 🙂 Many thanks for a speedy response and quick fix.
