Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Was getting an error OXB83B94C8 on my printer (HP Envy 5541) when printing.  It first stopped part way through a page a few pages in on a 33 page run and gave error with flashing lights.  I rebooted laptop and printer disconnected and put all back on and did few pages and then same again.  This happened a few times.  Now no longer getting an error message but I send print job to the queue and in queue but nothing prints.  I tried rebooting all several times over the last few days and same.  Have cancelled jobs in queue and restarted until now.  Then when printing the few pages it flashed up on the laptop screen - printer needs attention - out of paper.  but checked and paper has 1 inch of paper in there and it was printing at the time ok.  Now I just can't get it to do anything as clear queue and says out of paper but all paper is ok.  I searched error the other day and found something about an internal card could be at fault and replace printer but I can't find that now and my printer is quite a few years old so just wondering if this is it.  Anyone got any other advice before I head off to buy a new printer?

Hi @OhComeOn61,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’ve been dealing with quite a few issues with your HP Envy 5540. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

1. Clear Printer Queue and Restart

  • Clear the Printer Queue: Ensure that all print jobs are cleared from the queue. Go to your printer settings on your computer, find the printer queue, and cancel any pending jobs.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart Computer: Sometimes a full restart of both the printer and computer can resolve connectivity and printing issues.

2. Check for Paper Jams

  • Inspect Paper Path: Open the paper trays and any other compartments to check for any obstructions or paper jams.
  • Check Paper Sensors: Sometimes the paper sensors can get dirty or blocked. Gently clean the sensors with a soft, lint-free cloth.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Visit the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Installing the latest firmware can resolve many issues.

4. Reset Printer to Factory Settings

  • Perform a Factory Reset: Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. This can sometimes resolve persistent issues.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect for Physical Damage: Look for any signs of physical damage or wear, especially around the internal components like the print head.
  • Internal Card: If you found a reference to an internal card being faulty, it's possible but less common. Generally, if the printer has internal hardware issues, it might be more practical to consider a replacement.

6. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall and Reinstall: Go to your computer’s device manager, uninstall the current printer driver, and then reinstall it using the latest drivers from the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
