With my HP Envy 5540 printer, I cannot print from my HP Smart app (iOS 16.5.1). It gives a 'Tray empty or open' message. I have tried all of the posted solutions from this forum, but none of them work. Paper type is defined correctly, reloading the paper tray doesn't help, cleaning the rollers doesn't help, there are no obstructions in the paper path, I've unplugged and plugged it back in, and I've checked firmware (it says it's up to date). Because I can print from (some) other computers, I assume the problem is in the app and its communication with the printer.
I also cannot print from my MacBook Pro (with Ventura OS). The error is similar - 'Out of paper.'
I can, however, print from my other, older, MacBook Pro (with Monterey OS), just fine. I can also print fine from my Windows 11 laptop - no problems whatsoever.

If you're receiving a "Tray empty or open" message on your HP Envy 5540 printer, it typically indicates an issue with the paper tray. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
Check the paper tray: Make sure the paper tray is properly loaded with paper. Remove the paper stack, straighten the stack, and then reload it into the tray. Ensure that the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper stack to prevent misalignment.
Verify the paper size and type: Confirm that the paper size and type settings in the printer software or control panel match the paper loaded in the tray. If there is a mismatch, adjust the settings accordingly.
Inspect for obstructions: Look inside the paper tray and check for any foreign objects or debris that may be obstructing the paper path. Clear out any obstructions carefully.
