My wireless connected hp envy 5640 e-Allinone scanner/printer just suddenly couldn't print anymore with no errors showing.
This printer has been used quite frequently and it used to work well. However, I kinda stopped using it for about 2 weeks, and today when I tried printing, whenever I sent a document to print, the printer status showed "Printing" and suggested that documents were successfully printed; however, the printer was actually doing nothing.
I tried to uninstall/reinstall the hp printer driver for many times, used hp print and scan doctor showing all checks with no errors, disabled firewalls, checked the wireless connection for both my laptop and the printer, and even used an USB to connect my laptop and printer, but still failed to get any response from the printer. Fortunately, it was able to print an internal test page by the HP print and scan doctor, but not a test page. During all these processes, the printer status was always showing "Ready" for printing with no errors indicating.
On the other hand, my printer were able to print several documents sent from my roommate's laptop via wireless connection, and my laptop could also ordered my roommate's printer, a Cannon one, to print through wifi.
This situation has botherd me for a whole night and I am actually getting much more dependent on the printer now as school year has started. I really hope that someone can solve my problem and I would much appreciate his helpfulness. Urgently needing your help!
Thanks in advance,
Willow

Hi Willow!
I see that you're having a problem printing wirelessly using your HP Envy 5640 printer.
If your roomate can print using your printer wirelessly, then I think there's nothing wrong with it's connection.
To restore your printer's last working condition, you can try doing a Hard Reset. Simply unplug the power cable from the wall outlet then from the back of the printer. Wait atleast a minute then plug it back on both ends. Normally the printer will automatically power on. If not, just press the power button.
The wireless blue light should remain solid once the printer is completely powered on.
On your PC, go to Run by pressing Windows + R key on your keyboard.
Type services.msc and Services window should come up.
Restart the services listed below by right clicking on top of them and selecting Restart. If it's not started yer, select Start.
1. Print Spooler
2. IP Helper
3. Web client
4. Network access protection agent
Try printing any of your documents and see if it will work.
Hope this will help.
Have a good day! 🙂

Hi Willow,
I reckon that your printer might have been set to a Local Port instead of the USB port (try printing by connecting to USB first).
Solution 1
- You can go to Control Panel --> Printer and Devices --> Right Click on the printer that you are using --> Select Printer Properties as shown
- Go to the Ribbon Tab above name "Ports", if you see that it is set as other ports eg. Local Port/Adobe PDF/Printer Port/File etc, it is incorrect you will have to scroll up the list and select one of the USB Port (which do not starting with the naming as USB0XX" the click Apply and Save the settings.
Hope that my solution can be of help to you.

Hi Willow,
I reckon that your printer might have been set to a Print to File in the Printer Properties.
Solution 2
- Example:- I am printing a Word Document when i click Print, it will bring me to the Printer Selection screen as shown, from the drop down list, you will see that the printer you have selected is Ready, do ensure to untick/unselect the "Print to File" at the last of the dropdown list.
Hope that my solution can be of help to you.
