HP Envy 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Envy 5660 is off line. I have used HP Scan and Print Doctor to no avail. The wireless connection is there and I can see my router listed on the printer wireless page. It shows the IP address and says connected, yet the printer remains off line. I did check the port but not sure if it is correct setting. It is connected via TCP/IP standard port. I am also connected to instant ink and worked through HP Ink support as my account showed the printer was offline. Eventually, it was connected but the following day after starting computer, printer remained off line. I am frustrated beyond belief.  I am next thinking of uninstalling printer and starting over but somehow I think that would create more issues. PLEASE HELP!!!!

As I understand you have tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer software and still you see a copy of printer. In this scenario, let's try to uninstall the printer from the root level and then reinstall it by following the steps below:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • In the connection type window, select “Wireless” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Here's an update: I decided to uninstall and reload the printers' software. At first, I had trouble still with the printer remaining offline after the reinstall, so I decided to run the troubleshooter. It asked me which version of the printer I wanted to set as default so I selected the updated version or the copy. This seemed to work and was able to print a doc from my laptop. I tested it again with a pdf and again success. The odd part of this is the software shows twice even though I supposedly uninstalled it. When I go to Printers and Devices under the control panel, the printer is listed once... as it should. So I am confused why the original copy of the HP Envy 5660 software is still showing up and that I had to select one or the other version?

Jeet_singh, Thank you so much for the solution. I was able to stop the spooler, empty the folder and restart the service to my printer.  I opened an old doc and printed sucessfully. There was no need to do the second phase of this as it worked. I will test a few more items to print. I greatly appreciate your help.
