@hanmarr90, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Envy 6000 Shows E3 error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

An E3 error on HP Envy 6000 printers indicates a carriage or paper jam. Since you have already checked for jams, secured the cartridges, unplugged the power cord, and updated the firmware, here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Inspect Carriage Path and Remove Obstructions:

  • Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Gently move the carriage manually to check if it moves freely from side to side.
  • Look for any obstructions inside the printer, such as bits of paper, packaging material, or foreign objects.
  • Remove any found obstructions carefully.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer, and then plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet.

Hi @hanmarr90

Thanks for hanging in there—I know how frustrating it is to see that blinking amber E3 light staring back at you even after you’ve tried everything.

Since the jam and reset steps didn’t help, it sounds like the carriage might be stuck or misaligned internally, even if nothing’s visibly blocking it. Here’s one more thing to try before we explore service options:

Try the “gentle nudge” method:

Power off the printer and unplug it again.

Open the cartridge access door.

With clean, dry hands, gently slide the carriage from one side to the other. Do you feel any resistance, or does it stop midway?

While it’s open, shine a flashlight inside—look deep along the carriage path, even tiny bits of torn paper can cause this.

Close everything securely and plug the printer directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector.

If the E3 error still blinks after that, we might be looking at a hardware issue—possibly with the carriage motor or sensor.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
