My HP Envy 6055e is not printing and only glows amber, with no other lights displayed.
I have tried:
unplugging my printer, waiting 60 seconds, and replugging my printer directly into the wall.
replacing my paper
making sure my ink cartridges are secured
paper tray intact
This started after a paper jam, which I cleared, and now there are no other issues or obstructions visible. My printer starts up and glows amber, will not print anything, and does not display any error codes or other lights. I have tried to contact customer support to no avail. This printer has given me so many issues over the last 3 years that I have owned it, that I am considering throwing it away and never using HP again. Please help.

Hi @Akorz,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Envy 6055e is stuck in an error state after the paper jam, and the amber light typically indicates that there’s an issue that prevents printing, though no specific error code is being shown. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to get it back in working order:
1. Power Reset the Printer Again
Even though you’ve unplugged the printer, let’s try a full reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the printer from the wall.
- Wait at least 5 minutes to ensure all internal processes are fully reset.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
2. Check for Paper Jams Again
You mentioned you cleared the paper jam, but it's worth double-checking:
- Open the paper tray and the back panel (if available) to check for any hidden pieces of paper or debris.
- Look for any small pieces of paper that might be stuck inside, especially near the rollers or the paper feed path.
3. Check the Ink Cartridges
Even if the ink cartridges appear secured, there could still be a connectivity issue:
- Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges to ensure they're seated properly.
- Check the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks, and make sure the protective tape has been fully removed from the new cartridges.
4. Perform a Printer Reset Through the Printer Menu
If your printer has a touchscreen, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance or Tools.
- Look for an option to reset or restore to factory settings. If this isn’t available, it might help to go through the Network Reset option to refresh the printer’s network connection.
5. Try a Print Job from a Different Device
Sometimes, the issue might be with the connection between the printer and the device you're printing from:
- Try printing from another device (e.g., another computer, phone, or tablet) to see if the issue persists.
- Ensure the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network (if wireless printing is being used).
6. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer
Sometimes, a firmware update can help resolve these types of issues:
- If you’re able to access the printer settings or HP Smart app, check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
7. Clear the Print Queue
If there’s a stuck print job in the queue, it might prevent the printer from printing:
- Open the Printer Queue on your computer.
- Clear any pending print jobs.
8. HP Printer Diagnostic Tool HP Print and Scan Doctor
You can also run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any printer-related issues:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s official website.
Refer to this document: HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
