My printer was fine. I powered it down, then powered it back up the next day. It's now stuck on the first page of the boot screen with the logo. I have tried all of the publicly available reboot steps - power down, unplug everything, use a different wall socket, etc.  Nothing has worked.

HP. please send me the hardcore reset instructions that might brick my printer.  As far as I'm concerned, it's already a brick.  It will either get better or it will definitely be gone.

Hi @Nonworking,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 7155 printer is stuck on the boot screen and the usual reboot steps haven’t worked, you can try a factory reset. Here’s how to perform a hardcore reset that might help.

Factory Reset Instructions

Power Off the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it's turned on.

Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds. This helps clear any temporary settings and allows the printer to reset.

Reconnect Power:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer first, then into the wall socket.
  • Wait for the printer to turn on automatically. If it doesn’t, press the power button.

Factory Reset:

  • On the printer's control panel, tap on the Setup icon (gear icon).
  • Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Look for the option that says Restore Factory Defaults or Restore Network Defaults. Select this option.
  • Confirm the reset by selecting Yes when prompted.

Reboot the Printer: After the factory reset, the printer will restart. Wait for it to finish booting up.

Additional Steps if Needed

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you can also try.

Firmware Update: Sometimes a firmware update can fix boot issues, but this might require the printer to be functioning correctly first.

Note

Performing a factory reset will erase any custom settings you have configured, including network settings, so you'll need to set those up again after the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden4,

This solution will not work.  The HP Envy 7155 Printer only has soft buttons on the touch screen.  Because it will not finish booting, the control panel never shows up on the display.  I cannot access any of the icons that you mention (settings, printer maintenance, etc.) They are not there. All that shows is the HP logo screen with the first dot illuminated.

Because I cannot access anything on the touch screen, and because there is no USB drive connector, I cannot upload software, either.  I was hoping that there was a hard reset button that was hidden in the guts of the printer.  Since it does not seem that there is, I guess I have a very expensive brick that cannot even be donated to a charity shop.

You are not the first HP employee to suggest this very answer to someone with the same problem I have.  Please let the authors of your answer scripts know that when a touch screen printer will not boot, then using the softkeys is not a viable answer.

Hi @Nonworking,

Thank you for your response,

There are a few additional steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

Power Cycle with Different Power Source

  • Power Off the Printer: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it's on.
  • Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect to a Different Outlet: Instead of plugging it back into the same outlet, try connecting it to a different wall outlet to rule out any power issues.
  • Plug the Printer Back In: Reconnect the power cord and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Open the Printer: Check for any paper jams or obstructions in the printer. Sometimes a jam can cause it not to boot properly.
  • Clear Any Jammed Paper: Carefully remove any jammed paper or foreign objects you might find.

Inspect for Hardware Issues

  • Listen for Sounds: When you power it on, listen for unusual sounds (like grinding or clicking), which might indicate a hardware malfunction.
  • Check Connections: Make sure that all cables are securely connected and there are no loose wires.

Service Mode Attempt

  • If you’re comfortable with it, you might try to access service mode:
    • Press and Hold the Power Button: Hold the power button while you plug the printer back in. Keep it held for about 10 seconds.
    • This sometimes forces the printer to attempt a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
