HP Envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My new computer simply will not print to my printer.
My lenovo laptop prints just fine (Windows 10 as well with all outstanding bios, windows, and driver updates as of todays date).

I have downloaded the printer driver software which runs, connects, and completes showing that it sees the printer on the network and connects to it. It appropriately installs the correct drivers into windows device manager and I have verified that it shows the exact same driver and identifies the printer by the correct IP address with my working computer.

As I recently bought this laptop I installed a fresh windows 10 installation. Installed all device drivers, bios updates, ran support assist to verify, and performed all windows 10 updates to date.

Windows sees the printer as ready and connected but will not print a test page and I have tried other programs such as word, excel, adobe, and chrome, which see and list the printer as an option, connected, and ready. The print job goes to the printer queue for a second or two and then disappears as if it printed.

This makes zero sense to me.

For SnG I have reinstalled the printer drivers multiple times and I have factory restored my printer. I performed the initial printer setup on this new computer, which went without error and at the end of the setup it printed the test page.

This has not solved my problem. I reinstalled the driver and reconnected withh my other computer and it works just fine.

I have ran the HP Print and Scan doctor, it sees and connects to the printer. I will note that the print and scan doctor greys out the "printer" tab across the top tab (file, network printer, help) and my working computer does not. I run the fixes and it says everything is connected and checks out. The final option to print a test page fails and the programs appears to freeze when I select "no print" to indicate that it did not send out a test print.

I am currently only running the windows antivirus and to alliviate any possibly conflicts and disabled windows defender and disabled the windows firewall.

I'm pretty much at the point where I might consider reinstalling windows but it just doesn't make sense for this issue to be occuring and any help is appreciated.

I fixed it. I deleted the printer installation from the driver software package and went into windows to manually add the printer. I added the printer via IP address and selected to have windows pull the driver from the printer.

I'm not sure I can make sense of this but it worked. I downloaded a new printer software package from the HP website each time I attempted to install it and this is the same package I downloaded to install on my lenovo computer after I factory restored the printer.

So if anyone is haveing the same problem here is exactly what I did.

Go to devices and printers in settings.

Select the installed printer and remove it.

Go to add a printer and ignore everything that comes up.

Select "it didn't appear on the list".

Select TCP/IP setup.

Put the printer's IP address where it belongs.

Search for it. It told me I already had printer software for this printer installed, I selected not to use it and there is a box to pull the driver directly from the printer.

And finished.

And there goes three hours of my life.

Wow, I'm so impressed you came up with this solution!  I had the same problem with my Surface Pro laptop when (apparently) an automated update caused the same problem (a flash in the print queue, but no actual printing).  Spent over 20 hours trying to get things to work before I came across your post.  Don't know how you figured this out, but you are a genius!  Thank You!!!
