HP Envy 7640
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I am using an HP Envy 7640 on my wireless home network.  It keeps going to sleep and will not wakeup when a print job is sent. There is a menu item for adjusting the sleep mode from 5-15 minutes but not to 0 minutes.  I stumbled on an article about another problem the gave directions on how to access a hidden "Engineering" menu.  In that menu under is a menu called "Underwear" which has some system setting.  I reset the system timeout to zero which may only effect the screen timeout.  Do you know whether this will work for the sleep mode and reset it to zero?  Or is there any other way to set the sleep menu to zero or a setting that will ensure the printer wakes up when a print job is sent?  I have the printer set to a static IP address also.

Thanks

Sleep mode

● Power usage is reduced while in the Sleep mode.

● After the initial setup of the printer, the printer will enter the Sleep mode after five minutes of inactivity.

● The time to the Sleep mode can be changed from the control panel.

To set the Sleep mode time

1. From the Home screen, touch Setup.

2. Touch Preferences.

3. Scroll through the options, and then touch Sleep Mode.

4. Touch After 5 minutes or After 10 minutes, or After 15 minutes.

That is the problem, it goes into sleep mode then it won’t print anything, it doesn’t wake up. So I am trying to find a way to bypass sleep mode all together, is there a way?

Let's Assign Manual IP to the printer:

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.

2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.

3) Open a web browser.

4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.

5) Go to the Network tab.

6) Click on Networking from the left pane.

7) Then click on Network Address (IP).

😎 Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.

9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.

10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.

11) Click on Apply.

Refer to the video link for step by step instructions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnYyq80V9g

Note: The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6617267/document/c0291...

Restart the printer.

I I already have a static IP assigned to the printer outside of the DNS range. And I tried to update the firmware previously and it said there was no updates
