I have repeatedly loaded 4x6 HP photo paper in HP Envy 7640 and it keeps saying load paper and will not print photos. I have tried loading fewer sheets and maximum sheets of paper and get same message. MAC iOS 16.5.1

Hi @LisaNYC1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Envy 7640 printer. When dealing with paper loading problems, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check the Paper Size and Type Settings: Make sure the printer settings match the paper loaded in the tray. In this case, ensure that the paper size is set to 4x6 inches and the paper type is set to "Photo Paper" or "Glossy Photo Paper" in the printer preferences on your Mac.
  • Clean the Paper Tray Rollers: Dust and debris on the paper tray rollers can cause paper feeding problems. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Open the paper tray and check for any dirt or debris. If you find any, gently clean the rollers using a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn on the printer and try printing again.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check the HP website for any available updates for your HP Envy 7640 printer model and follow the instructions to update the firmware.
  • Reset Printing System (Mac): Sometimes, issues with the print queue or settings can cause printing problems. To reset the printing system on your Mac, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners." Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the printer's list and select "Reset Printing System." Confirm the action and enter your Mac password if prompted. Keep in mind that this will remove all printers from the list, and you'll need to re-add them.
  • Reinstall Printer Driver: If the issue persists, uninstall the printer driver from your Mac and reinstall the latest driver from the HP website.
  • Use HP Smart App: Consider using the HP Smart app on your Mac, as it can help troubleshoot and manage your printer more effectively.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
