hp envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 11

For a couple of years now, the touchscreen on my HP Envy 7640 has been finicky. It only selectively responds to touch -- sometimes you have to press hard, or press the button with an offset (like pressing above the button clicks the button). The printer hasn't suffered any rough treatment or damage; it's led a quiet life but has had to manage this disability.

The "Set the Date" screen also keeps popping up, and will keep popping up when it is dismissed. The time and date are correct, but something keeps triggering that screen to pop up. It happens very quickly (less than a second), so if you want to do anything like scan a document you have to keep dismissing that screen and very quickly manage to press the button for the next step (which has to be pressed hard, offset, etc.).

I have tried a factory reset, and discharging the capacitors via power reset (unplug, wait several minutes, plug in) several times with no effect.

I'm not finding other posts with a similar issue, so I'm wondering whether anything can be done about this faulty touchscreen. It seems like there is some problem with the internal circuitry.
