HP ENVY 7855
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hi,

My HP Envy 7855 Printer seems to be stuck in an update loop. I was using it normally but now when I power it up it says "Checking for Printer Updates" and sits on this screen for a few minutes with a circle spinning. Then it says "Download Unsuccessful" and 'The printer update could not be downloaded". The only option on screen is to click OK (none of the home or back buttons are illuminated or working) and when I click OK this whole cycle starts again....endlessly.

I have attempted to fully power off and unplug the printer. I can't send any print jobs to it and it won't let me pick it up on the wireless network. I plugged it into my laptop via USB in an attempt to manually update but it won't detect the printer.

How can I fix this? Is there a hard reset I can perform?

Thanks

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you make any changes to your printer?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Could you please share the picture of the error message?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
