Hi @ChristianR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Photo 6230 is showing the message "The indicated cartridges are not correctly communicating with the printer," it typically indicates an issue with the cartridges or printhead. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Power Off and Unplug:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds.

Open Cartridge Access Door:

  • Open the printer's access door to reach the cartridges.

Remove the Cartridges:

  • Carefully remove each cartridge from the printer. Note how they are installed for reinstallation.

Inspect Cartridges:

  • Check the cartridges for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on them. Remove any protective tape if it’s still attached.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Reinsert the cartridges into their respective slots. Ensure they are securely seated and click into place.

Close the Access Door:

  • Close the cartridge access door and plug the printer back in. Turn it on.

2. Clean the Cartridge and Printhead Contacts

Remove and Inspect Cartridges:

  • Take out the cartridges again.

Clean Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges. Also, clean the contacts inside the cartridge slot in the printer.

Dry and Reinstall:

  • Let everything dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges. Reinstall them as described above.

3. Perform Printer Maintenance

Run Printer Diagnostic Tools:

  • Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s onboard menu to run diagnostic tools or printhead cleaning cycles.

Check for Printhead Issues:

  • If the problem persists, it might be related to the printhead. Consult your printer manual for instructions on removing and cleaning the printhead, or use the printer’s cleaning utilities.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Envy Photo 6230.

Reinstall Drivers:

  • Uninstall the existing printer drivers from Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Reinstall the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
