I have not used my printer in a while and made sure I cleaned all contacts on the color ink cartridge and still have an E0 error.

Hi @Cari671

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing that—seeing an E0 error after a long break can be really discouraging, especially when you've already cleaned the cartridge contacts.

That error typically points to a cartridge issue, like improper installation or recognition failure. Let’s walk through a few recommended steps to help clear it:

🖨 Step 1: Identify the Problem Cartridge

  • Open the ink access door and check which cartridge light is flashing.
  • If only one is blinking, that’s the one the printer is having trouble with.

🔄 Step 2: Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Gently remove the problem cartridge.
  3. Check for any protective tape that might still be on the cartridge (even if it’s been used before).
  4. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  5. Close the lid and wait to see if the error clears.

🧼 Step 3: Clean the Contacts Again (Just in Case)

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Let everything dry for 10 minutes before reinstalling.

🔁 Step 4: Power Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Unplug from the wall and wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and power on.

🧪 Step 5: Try a Different Cartridge (if available)

  • If you have a spare or older cartridge that worked previously, try installing it to see if the error clears.
  • This helps confirm whether the issue is with the cartridge or the printer itself.

If the E0 error still won’t budge after all this, the cartridge may be defective—even if it looks fine. Let me know what happens after these steps, and I’ll help you figure out the next move. We’ll get this sorted!
