How do I disconnect a USB flash stick after printing, in a safe manner?

I'm printing the documents on a standalone M454dw printer (not connected to a PC) from a USB flash drive. Connecting the USB to the printer and printing goes ok. However, when I connect the USB stick to my PC after disconnecting it from the printer, Windows shows a warning that the USB drive was not disconnected properly and may contain errors. That's a bit annoying. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Should I perform some "safe disconnect" or "unmount" operation before pulling the USB stick from the printer? What should I click? The user manual and HP video tutorials offers no help here...

There is no utility or other button to click to safely eject the stick that I have ever seen on any of the HP devices.
