After uninstalling the HP Smart app, reinstalling it, flashing the printer to the latest firmware, the scanner is still not being recognized by the HP Smart app. Everything else works fine but scanning initiated from the computer, using the HP Smart app, is not working. Ran HP Print/Scan Doctor and it is reporting that the HP Scan app software is not installed. How can this be?

I also installed the HP Scan Extended pack and still the same issue. See screenshots.

I used the native Win Fax and Scan software to initiate a scan and that works.  Why is HP software such garbage that it does not work?2023-12-24 23_11_05-.png

Hi @mrjazzitup ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when printer and scanner software doesn't work as expected. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Uninstall HP Software Completely:

  • First, uninstall all HP software related to your printer.
  • Disconnect the printer from the computer.
  • Go to "Control Panel" > "Programs and Features" (or "Add or Remove Programs" depending on your Windows version).
  • Uninstall any HP printer-related software.

Download and Install the Latest Software:

  • Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers and software for your HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf printer. Make sure to download the full-feature software, which includes the scanner software.
  • Install the downloaded software and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager on your computer.
  • Look for your printer under "Imaging devices" or "Printers." If there's a yellow triangle or an error message, there might be an issue with the driver.

Update or Roll Back Drivers:

  • Right-click on the printer/scanner in Device Manager.
  • Choose "Update driver" and follow the on-screen instructions. Select the option to search for updated driver software automatically.
  • If that doesn't work, you can also try rolling back the driver to a previous version.

Verify Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the computer, either via USB or over the network.
  • Try using a different USB cable or port if you are connecting via USB.

Reinstall HP Smart App:

  • After reinstalling the printer software, reinstall the HP Smart app.
  • Make sure that you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date. Install any pending Windows updates.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software to see if they are blocking the communication between the computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
