HP LaserJet IIP Plus
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an older HP LaserJet IIP Plus that won't switch on. I have tried moving the plug, and nothing happens. It used to work fine until I turned it off for a few days. It was previously never switched off. Can anyone help me, please? Many Thanks.

Hi @DanT03

If your HP LaserJet IIP Plus isn't turning on, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and possibly resolve the issue:

Check Power Supply

  1. Power Cable: Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the printer and a working power outlet. You might want to try a different outlet to rule out any issues with the current one.

  2. Power Strip or Surge Protector: If you are using a power strip or surge protector, try connecting the printer directly to the wall outlet. Sometimes these devices can fail or become overloaded.

Inspect for Physical Damage

  • Check for any visible signs of damage or wear on the power cable and connector. Damaged cables can prevent the printer from powering on.

Reset the Printer

  1. Unplug and Replug: Disconnect the power cable from the printer and the outlet, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. This can help reset any internal electronics.

Internal Components

  • Internal Fuses: Older printers like the LaserJet IIP Plus might have internal fuses. If you're comfortable, you can check for a blown fuse. However, this usually requires opening the printer and may void any remaining warranty or cause further damage if not done correctly. Consult the service manual for guidance.

Professional Assistance

  • Service Center: If the printer still doesn't power on, it might need professional inspection. A certified HP service center can provide further diagnostics and repair options.

Consider Upgrade

Given that the HP LaserJet IIP Plus is an older model, it might be worthwhile to consider upgrading to a newer printer with current technology and support, especially if repair costs are high.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, professional repair services might be necessary to address a potential internal hardware problem.
