HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw

Resetting, unplugging, restarting, not working. Spent an hour with my IT helpdesk, they couldn't figure it out either. Tried downloading latest printer drives, but cannot even see the printer on the network, so software won't update.

Hi @emjack,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having a tough time with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw. Let's go through a few steps to try and troubleshoot this issue.

Check Connections and Network Setup

  • Ensure Printer is Powered On: Make sure the printer is properly plugged in and turned on.
  • Check Network Connections: If you're using a wired connection, ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the printer and the router. For wireless, check that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Printer Network Settings

  • Print a Network Configuration Page: This can provide useful information about the printer’s network status. You can usually find this option in the printer’s control panel under the network settings menu.
  • Reset Network Settings: Try resetting the network settings on the printer to default. This is often found under the network settings menu and can help if there are any configuration issues.

Update Firmware

  • Use a USB Connection: If the printer isn’t appearing on the network, connect it directly to your computer using a USB cable. This may allow you to update the firmware directly.
  • Download Firmware Update: Visit the HP support page and search for the firmware update for your specific model. Follow the instructions provided by HP to install the update via USB.

Reinstall Printer Software

  • Uninstall Existing Drivers: Go to your computer’s control panel and remove any existing printer drivers for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw.
  • Download Latest Drivers: From the HP support page, download the latest drivers for your operating system.
  • Install Drivers: Follow the installation instructions, ensuring the printer is connected to your network or directly to your computer as needed.

Check Router Settings

  • Restart Router: Sometimes, restarting your router can resolve network connectivity issues.
  • Check for Network Isolation: Ensure that your router settings aren’t isolating devices on the network, which can prevent your computer from communicating with the printer.

Factory Reset the Printer

  • Perform a Factory Reset: This will reset all settings to default, including network settings. This option is usually found in the printer’s setup menu under the "Service" or "Restore Defaults" section.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
