Hi there,

a few days ago, I tried to reset my OfficeJet Pro L7580 printer via the "3"+"*" on power on combo to get access to the password protected portion of the Integrated Web Server. Since I tried the Service Menues */#+123 and */#+329 before, I am not entirely sure if I changed something that shouldn't have been changed.

Now for my problem: The printer no longer prints. It accepts print jobs from PCs and from the printer itself (copy, print status pages, clean print heads, etc.), but never actually starts printing. No motion at all. All it says is "printing" or the status of the photocopy on its display.

From an extensive web search I know, that other HP printers have a hidden option "NO PRINT MECH" which sounds exactly like what the printer is doing (printer mechanics disabled with no error messages). But I cannot find this option in any of the service menus I know on the L7580.

 

Is there any way to reactivate the printer motors?

Update: pressing "Cancel" and "Power" together for some length of time did the trick. I don't know what trick, but it did it. The printer did a way more elaborate mechanism checkout and audibly went into some misalignments, identified some bogus paper jam, and, curiously, failed to do a print head calibration. Anyway, the old beast is back to printing. Recommended solution? Black magic. Thanks for the suggestions anyway!

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

I performed the steps as described. There is no change to the situation. I should mention, that all mechanisms move on start up. That's why I still assume it's a configuration problem rather than an electrical or mechanical problem.

Any other ideas?

The one thing that looks promising is the menu item "r/w parameters" from the service menu. Unfortunately, the 1000+ parameters are only shown by their index number and their value, but not what they are for. Can you give insight into this?

 

For people who are looking for the firmware update: on the download page for the L7580 you have to switch your OS to "Windows XP". Otherwise, the firmware update will not show.

This seems to be a hardware issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
