HP Officejet Pro 8620
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8620 and it will on occasions print multiple unwanted printer status reports. Last night it printed 12 status reports and apart from the amount of total pages printed changingon the report, the status reports are the same.

The printer is networked mainly to Mac OS but I do have one Windows 10 laptop.

I have tried the recommendations of previous posts to run Scan Doc but this so far have found nothing wrong and has not resolved the unwanted printing of status reports. Printer status report added below if it helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey @Dan0181,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that your Officejet 8620 e-All-In One Printer is printing a lot of Status Reports. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once that is done, while the printer is powered on, remove the power cord from the back of the printer for one minute. Next, please let me know if you are printing when the status reports start or if they start on their own as well as if there are any messages on the printer when it tries to print. Once I know more I should be better able to assist you.

Please let me know if the above prevented the reports from printing. If it did, please let me know by clicking on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Didn't help - during the nght I got 32 pages of status reports!

was this ever resolved?  i've been having the exact same problem.  it's intermittent, and usually does it about 3-5 nights in a row, usually just after midnight.  so far (knock wood) i haven't seen 32 pages of status reports, but i have certainly seen 6-10.  very aggrevating.  i even tried putting it on a schedule to shut down before midnight since it seems to always be after that when this happens, but the printer apparently wakes up to print all of these redundant ink and paper wasting reports.

would LOVE to find a solution.

BTW, i too tried the unplug it for a minute solution and it didn't work for me either.  oh, and also i have no pets or children in the house who might accidentally touch the control pad.

Add my name to the list.  Last night, 47 unwanted pages printed out.  Perhaps HP just wants to sell more ink...

If I remember each night, I'm going to start powering off the printer before hitting the sack.

I have used HP products for forty years and will continue to do so but this Printer continues to spew out unordered and unwanted printer status reports, fax reports and numerous other pieces of garbage together with 50 or more blank or partially printed pages all at random times when it is not in use. Apart from that very annoying occurrence it is a reliable printer.

OK....THIS IS NOT THE SOLUTION...because I've tried it....multiple times.   DOES NOT WORK!

I also spent an hour on the phone with someone from HP support.   After going through a ton of resets, etc....this printer STILL prints out anywhere from 10 to over 40 printer status reports on its own.

CLEARLY, THIS IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM...and from the questions here, it's clear that this issue has been going on for at least a year.

SO MY QUESTION IS...why has HP NOT FIXED THIS BUG IN THEIR SOFTWARE?

I've used HP printers for over 30 years, but unless this is fixed, this will BE MY LAST HP PRINTER...EVER.
