OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My OJ3830 does not print anything in color in real-life applications.

I have read multiple postings about this specific issue, but I have never seen any satisfactory solution in the forum.

It DOES print in color only when I tried to print diagnostic stuff (e.g., Printer Status Report, Print Quality Diagnostics, etc.). in the settings menu, but it DOES NOT print anything in color in any of real-life applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Powerpoint, etc.). Since it can print something in color in diagnostic pages, but can't in MS Office applications, I think there is an issue with the interface between the application and the print driver. I checked every available option "in color" in MS Office products, (all available options both in the driver and the application setting to be "in color") and tried again. The printer still prints in grayscale.

I have tried:

1. Uninstall/Reinstall the driver. (this didn't work. still prints everything in grayscale) I tried this 4 times. I don't want to try this procedure again.

2. Replacing color cartridges. (it is brand-new and official product.) Properly aligned and tested. I can see things printed in color only in diagnostic/testing printings in the setting menu of the instrument.

3. Everything that is mentioned in this posting/responses (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/My-Officejet-3830-will-not-print-in-color-from-my-comp...).

4. And this (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/color-not-printing/m-p/6906814#M763158)

I hope this issue could be solved.

Hello, @TEJ1602,

Thank you for your detailed response!

In short, now it is working somehow.

I failed to completely remove the driver due to some unknown technical problem(s).

* I tried to remove the drive based on the tab appearing after typing "printui.exe /s." But, it was unsuccessful since it said that the driver is currently being used. So I tried to stop and restart the printer spooling several times while keeping trying to remove the derive from the root. But I failed to remove the drive due to the same problem (the driver was busy for some reason). Actually, this procedure is the one I previously tried.

So I decided to just override the existing drive with a new drive, simply by installing a new one without removing the previous one from the root. And it is now working. But for some mysterious reason, now the duplex (double-sided) printing function does not work, instead. (I don't need to solve this problem because I have no plan to use the duplex printing, but it would be glad if I could find a way to resolve!)

I thank you for your technical advice!

This document HP Printers - How to Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Windows) should help you with duplex printing.

Cheers!

Thank you @TEJ1602!

This is exactly how I performed the duplex printing before it is disabled for some reason after enabling the color. Now it just straightforwardly spit out printed papers just like the standard single-side printing, ignoring whatever printing settings I put.

I will try the built-in driver (I have not tried this yet) and will ask you again if it does not work.

Thank you again!

Best,
